The Orlando Youth Empowerment Series Unconference is a participant-driven event designed to engage and amplify the voices of LGBTQ+ youth in Central Florida. The agenda of the OYES Unconference will primarily be determined by the youth in attendance and supported by trained educators and facilitators. The event will also include a selection of TED-style talks, small breakout groups, and interactive artistic expression activities. As always, we’ll close the event with an epic lip sync showcase.

The 2023 OYES Unconference is an intentional shift from traditional conference hierarchies where speakers decide and deliver presentations for mass consumption. This format is adaptive and can respond to what’s most pressing in the hearts and minds of the youth in attendance so that they leave feeling seen, heard, and valued.

Because it will be a more intimate experience, attendance for the 2023 OYES Unconference will be capped at 80 participants.

The Orlando Youth Empowerment Series (OYES) is a collection of free events presented by the City of Orlando in collaboration with local governments and LGBTQ+ community organizations to empower Central Florida LGBTQ+ youth, community members and allies with the resources and education to bring about understanding, acceptance and inclusion.

Since its inception in 2014, OYES has been supported by Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 4 City Commissioner Patty Sheehan and LGBTQ+ community organizations to assure all communities feel welcomed, respected, and valued regardless of disability, race, cultural background, place of origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
